About Amy Walker _ maker

Even before finishing my degree, I knew I wouldn't last as a graphic designer. While everyone else was gaining experience behind computer screens in design studios across the UK, I was learning hand bookbinding in a small town in Cornwall. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against technology, I just think I would have been better suited to the 19th Century! I love the handmade. The slow unique imperfection of the handmade. The time to stop and take in the detail. The detail of colour, shape and pattern in the leaves, stems an flowers that inspire my art. The unique way each paint layer dries and deciding where each stitch will go, knowing that once the hole is made in the paper it's fixed in time forever.
And when my hands are empty and time sits waiting, I fill them with something different, some fun things that make my heart smile.
Welcome, and thankyou for taking the time to stop, look and enjoy.
